TRANSITIONER #1 NAKEISH!!!

Nakeish, tell us where you are from and what you do

NAKEISH LITTLE BORN AND RAISED IN BOSTON NOW RESIDING IN NC. FULLTIME STUDENT/MOTHER/WIFE/FRIEND... UP AND COMING PHOTOGRAPHER

What or who made you decide to go natural?

I FIRST WENT NATURAL TEN YEARS AGO AT THE AGE OF 19. I WAS YOUNG AND UP FOR ANYTHING, BUT MS. ERYKAH BADU INSPIRED ME THAT NATURAL WAS THE WAY TO GO....LOVE HER DEARLY... I KEPT IT LOW CUT FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS AND THEN I DECIDED I WANTED HAIR AND A RELAXER AGAIN. I WENT BETWEEN NATURAL AND CHEMICALLY TREATED HAIR FOR 9 YEARS.

have you had any negative feedback from friends or family?, if so how did you handle it

MY FRIENDS LOVE MY HAIR NATURAL. ALL THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK HAS BEEN FROM FAMILY. I ACTUALLY HANDLE IT VERY WELL BY PAYING THEM NO MIND. I LOVE MY HAIR AND I'M CONFIDENT WITH IT NATURAL. I FEEL SORRY FOR THEM AND THEIR RELAXERS...LOL

what products do you swear by?

AT FIRST I SWORE BY MY BARBER AND HIS CLIPPERS, THEN AS IT GREW OUT I SWORE BY THE AFRICANS FOR THE BRAIDS, NOW THAT I HAVE STARTED MY LOCS I STILL DON'T HAVE ANY PRODUCTS I SWEAR BY BECAUSE I GO TO A LOCTICIAN BUT SHE USES A NATURAL SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER MADE WITH VEGETABLES, SEAWEED, HERBS, FRUIT, AND MINERALS. THE LOCKING PRODUCT SHE USES IS MADE FROM, SHEA BUTTER, COCOA BUTTER, AND PLANT WAX. ONE THING I HATE IS DOING MY OWN HAIR..LOL

what style has helped you through your transition?

BRAIDS, BRAIDS, BRAIDS.....THANK GOODNESS FOR THEM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT THE HELP OF MICROBRAIDS. LORD KNOWS THEY KEPT ME LOOKING DECENT..LOL

who is your hair idol?

RACHEL STEWART (LOL..SERIOUSLY THOUGH), ERYKAH BADU, AND ANY BLACK WOMAN THAT IS STRONG ENOUGH TO GO NATURAL, LOVE IT, AND CARE LESS WHAT ANYONE THINKS. THERE IS FEELING OF EMPOWERMENT, STRENGTH, AND BEAUTY THAT COMES WITH WEARING YOUR HAIR NATURAL.

How can we see more of you and your work?

I'M WORKING ON GETTING A WEBSITE TOGETHER FOR MY PHOTOGRAPHY BUT FOR NOW I HAVE A FAN PAGE ON FACEBOOK WHERE I POST MOST OF MY WORK AND I DO HAVE A BLOG THAT I SOMETIMES TEND TO..LOL

FACEBOOK: Nakeish fan page

I SWEAR BY THE FACEBOOK FAN PAGE FOR NOW.......

Here are some great pics of Nakeish relaxed and natural...when I first saw her relaxed do at a party she threw for her husband..last year I thought it was soooo nice, it was the haircut I wanted, it was at this time I decided to grow my hair out..every few years I shave my head then grow it back out...I grew it out and flat ironed in a style similar to what she had...little did I know that after she saw me she decided to shave her head and go natural again...: )

  4. Rachel I'm not natural yet but I am in the transitioning phase. It's featured posts like this though that really motivate me to continue on my journey. Thank you for this.

  7. I must say that this is awesome what you all are doing. Natural is beautiful on you all.

The Coils is my favorite for this transition-ista ;-D

    Rock the natural!

I might not be the same color of skin but think it's awesome what you all are doing finally going back to embrace your natural hair. I only have a sliver of pain and time as to what you all might go thru with yours. The weave is cute, but why not Rock the natural? I think you guys look amazing with natural and it's awesome how you can do so much with your hair rather than the weave. Even having thick hair and using a flat iron/oil on my hair--I still can't even do close to what you all can do!

Rock the natural. Keep on blogging for the good cause!

    Peace,
    ~Cammy
